Designated Substances
ErgoMed, Occupational Health Services, has extensive experience in the development of workplace programs relating to designated substances.
Here is a brief overview of 3 program we have created to address the designated substances Silica, Isocyannate and Lead.
Silica Surveillance
A full policy on the measurement and control of silica in the workplace. Includes respiratory diseases questionnaire for silica surveillance interview, a prototype medical examination for silica surveillance and a prototype designation for the Joint Health and Safety Committee regarding the workers fitness to work with or without any restrictions as it applies to silica exposure.
Isocyanate Control Program
Contains the Occupational Health and Safety Act provisions for Isocyanate Control in the workplace. Discussion includes exposure limits to Isocyanate, the respiratory protection required for a worker and a reference to the sampling technique to be utilized. There is a in depth discussion of the medical surveillance required and the record keeping needed. Sample Isocyanate Medical Exam form and Isocyanate Respiratory questionnaire are also included.
Lead in the Workplace
Compete policy dealing with Lead exposure in industry. A questionnaire to be administered to workers known to be working with lead as part of their annual medical surveillance. A handout sheet for workers using processes containing Lead to remind them of the personal hygiene that is required when working in an environment that contains lead. A summary of the considerations in industry that predispose a worker to be lead exposed and how to avoid them.
